Natural Remedies For Yeast Infection
Many women are plagued with recurrent and ongoing yeast infections. Yeast infections are a common problem often caused by emotional distress, a change in diet or even a few alcoholic drinks. The vaginal PH level can often be restored using natural remedies. We will explore some of those natural remedies for yeast infections in this article.
Some common conditions that may lead to yeast infections are: emotional distress, general physical malaise, a poor diet, hormonal changes, birth control pills, antibiotics, vaginal irritations, excessive douching, among other causes.
One simple natural and easy way to remedy a yeast infection and prevent a future yeast infection is to wear cotton underwear. Also avoid panty hose if at all possible. Panty hose does not allow the vaginal area to breathe properly and often lead to irritation, and possible infection. Additionally, most manufacturers of underwear are required by law to sew a cotton crotch panel into each pair of underwear. Unfortunately, this is often insufficient. Purchasing one hundred percent cotton underwear is a simple and inexpensive way to ward off yeast infections.
Another way to remedy a yeast infection is to avoid sexual intercourse. Sexual activity can irritate tissue that is already inflamed, and may lead to further infection, by forcing the infecting organisms into the uterus and the fallopian tubes. Semen actually changes the PH level of the vagina for at least eight hours. If you are fighting a yeast infection, it is best to avoid sexual activity. Yeast infections can be passed from partner to partner, so it is often recommended that your partner follow a treatment program too. A condom can be used to prevent the spread of the yeast infection to the partner as well.
Eating a healthy diet is another natural remedy for treating yeast infections, and simply incorporating some healthy foods into your diet will be enough to ward off a yeast infection. Try to focus your meals around whole grains and steamed vegetables. Try to avoid red meat. Cranberry juice is often used as a natural remedy for yeast infections, and is highly recommended. In addition, yogurt can be included in the daily diet, yogurt helps to replenish the healthy flora in the vagina.
There are also some home made teas that can be utilized to remedy yeast infections. One example is an anti yeast tea, and consists of the following: 2 parts sage, 2 parts raspberry leaf, 2 parts mullein, and 1/4 goldenseal root. To make this mixture, use four to six tablespoons per quart of water. Add the herbs to cold water and bring to a simmer over low heat. Keep the pot covered. Remove from heat and keep pot covered and let steep for twenty minutes. Now, strain the tea. This tea will be bitter, so you may wish to sweeten according to your taste.
If, after trying some of these natural remedies for yeast infections don’t work, see your physician or holistic doctor.
